Alice in New York: LFL tours world premiere production of
Alice in Black and White!

Looking for Lilith Theatre Company is excited to announce venue and dates for a revival of Robin Rice’s Alice in Black and White which will tour to New York City in August of 2016. This year is the 150th anniversary of photographer Alice Austen’s birth, and to celebrate this milestone, LFL will revisit Rice’s powerful and poignant telling of Alice’s life.

LFL will perform Alice in Black and White at 59E59 Theaters in midtown Manhattan August 3-14. The majority of the cast and creative team will be coming together for this revival of LFL’s world premiere production.

The last time Looking for Lilith toured a show to NYC was to participate in the official centennial remembrances of the Triangle Fire, with LFL’s original work, Fabric, Flames, and Fervor: Girls of the Triangle in March of 2011. Says Co-Artistic Director Kathi E.B. Ellis, “Lilith never forgets its roots in New York City, and it’s significant for us as a company to take productions which have a specific resonance to time and place back to New York City. Alice’s anniversary marks the next perfect New York tour for us.”

Alice Austen fell in love with photography and another woman at a time when women were expected to do neither. Alice in Black and White, by award-winning published New York-based playwright Robin Rice is a humorous and heartbreaking exploration of Alice in a period-hopping story that embraces both love and mystery.

Brian Walker, writing for www.arts-louisville.com, gave this endorsement for the world premiere in March 2013: "Alice in Black and White is a beautiful script which is lucky to have its world premiere with this intimate production by Looking for Lilith. Kathi E.B. Ellis does a wonderful job at telling the story through the lens of movement and storytelling that’s become synonymous with a Lilith devised piece, still remaining true to the tone of Robin Rice’s play. It’s a match made in heaven and thought-provoking and moving night of theatre.”
