LFL’s 2014 May show is Body Awareness by NYC playwright Annie Baker, 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama. In this warm edgy smart comedy, it’s Body Awareness Week at Shirley College in Vermont. The non-traditional household of Shirley College professor Phyllis, her girlfriend Joyce and Joyce’s son Jared, who may, or may not have Aspberger’s, is shaken to the core by the visiting photographer of female nudes, Frank, and his “male gaze.” Sexuality, identity, body image, relationships, feminist critique, role modeling and political-correctness get stirred up in this important script, which Ryan Johnson of examiner.com says is “brimming with just as many heartfelt moments as hilarious ones.”

Acting Company:  Sean Childress, Trina Fischer, Richie Goff, Teresa Willis

Design & Production Company:  Haydee Canovas (Producer), Allison Smith (Stage Manager), Jill Marie Schierbaum (Set), John Newman (Lights), Laura Ellis (Sound), Lindsay Chamberlin (Costumes), Ada Asenjo (Props), Holly Stone (Graphics)

Body Awareness is sponsored in part by UofL’s Women and Gender Studies Department and the Awesome Foundation, with additional support from the UofL LGBT Center.

BODY AWARENESS was developed at the 2007 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, a program of the Playwrights Foundation, Amy L. Mueller, Artistic Director.

World Premiere presented by Atlantic Theatre Company, New York City, 2008
