by Cheryl Davis
directed by Kathi E.B. Ellis
A brand new play which debuted in Brooklyn in the fall of 2015, LFL produces a regional premiere which is this script’s second production. Davis has written a searing and smart picking apart of racial biases, personal and systemic. Reviews of last fall’s premiere state, “Carefully Taught is a very delicate story that deals with reverse discrimination [in a way that] is truly fascinating. The themes and topics Davis brings up are important and thought provoking" (Theater in the Now). An earlier work by Davis, Color of Justice, was produced by the Juneteenth Festival here in Louisville. Following on last season’s original Prevailing Winds, LFL’s commitment to Carefully Taught expands its engagement with issues of racial justice.
