Finding Lilith
Adam’s First Wife. Queen of Demons. Feminist Icon.
The namesake of our theatre company has a long and complex history. Lilith is a legendary figure - vilified for insisting on independence as a strong woman - and consistently derided by the patriarchy throughout time. In this new work, we explore her origins in mythology, in history, in our company, and in our own lives.

Rather than simply retelling an ancient myth, the production uses wit, insight, humor and creativity to explore how women who challenge injustice are often misunderstood, and why their stories continue to matter today.

Twenty-five years in the making, this new devised production was developed collaboratively throughout the 2025–2026 season, and debuts October 17-25 at The Mex Theater at The Kentucky Center.

Devising Jamboree
Every community has stories worth telling — this March, we're giving five of them a stage.The Devising Jamboree is a collaborative playwriting initiative bringing together nonprofit performing arts and community organizations from across Louisville Metro. Participating groups will work with LFL teaching artists to dig into current events and the issues that matter most to them, until they land on a story they want to tell  Then LFL artists  — using oral history, choral poetry, image theatre, movement, and more —will help each group to turn that spark into a 10–15 minute piece built entirely by them.

It all comes together for an evening of theatre featuring the new works in March. The Devising Jamboree is a chance for Louisville audiences to witness real accounts from their own community, build empathy, spark dialogue, and bridge the divides that too often keep us apart.

The Adventures of Molly Whuppie
After the success of our 2025 tour of Rachel Bublitz’ The Book Women, in partnership with The Louisville Free Public Library, we propose to do the same in summer 2027 with Anne Shelby’s The Adventures of Molly Whuppie! Kentucky author Anne Shelby wrote The Adventures of Molly Whuppie, a series of 14 short stories that feature a wiley, brave, and intrepid protagonist who is a pre-teen girl. Molly’s adventures are a variation on the traditional Appalachian “Jack Tales,” in which a young man named Jack gets into various predicaments and uses his wit to escape. However, whereas Jack is thieving, lazy and vengeful; Molly has great strength of character, and her motives are based in loyalty and justice for the underdog. 

This season, the students in our 7 different after-school programs will adapt, rehearse, and perform select Molly Whuppie stories as fully realized plays. These plays will then be cast with a mixture of student actors from our programs alongside the professional LFL ensemble, and will tour the Louisville Free Public Library system in summer of 2027, providing free live theatre to library patrons. 

Through this process, both young and seasoned feminist artists will learn from each other, as well as from the strength and resilience of Molly Whuppie herself!
