From 6th & Main to 4th & Magnolia:
Lilith pivots 20th Anniversary Celebration from
The MeX Theater to C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheatre

As originally published in our Season Announcement Press Release sent out in August, our 20th Anniversary Celebration The Candle Burns On: 20 Years of Looking for Lilith was scheduled to take place September 18th at The Kentucky Center. As necessity has been the mother of invention again and again throughout the pandemic, LFL re-invented their plan for recognizing this monumental milestone, and we will come together to celebrate on the same date, but now in the open-air space of Old Louisville’s Central Park.

So…Delta. It has become quite clear that it is not yet safe to return to indoor performance in a small black box theater at this moment in time. As we began to plan, we were hearing from both audiences and artists that the original plans didn't feel safe. BUT we are still determined to celebrate this important anniversary together on September 18th, but just with a slightly different feel,” says LFL Co-Founder/Artistic Director Shannon Woolley Allison. LFL members have become masters of the seemingly effortless pivot in this last year and a half, and so the whole company was able to take this adjustment with aplomb and grace. The behind the scenes scramble to change plans has become less of a scramble since March 2020, and more of a responsive dance.

On September 18, 2021 at 5:00pm, Looking For Lilith Theatre Company (LFL) will welcome audiences to the C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheatre in historic Old Louisville’s Central Park, at the corner of 4th & Magnolia (1340 S. 4th Street Louisville, KY 40208), with a performance-based party outside, rain or shine! Many thanks to Kentucky Shakespeare and Metro Parks for their gracious sharing of this space. LFL’s diverse 19-member ensemble will perform readings of excerpts from our “greatest hits” of the last two decades at this festive event. These excerpts will include readings from our very first original work in 2001, Crossing Mountains, all the way through to our most recent devising endeavors with The Kentucky Suffrage Project, as well as works from local playwrights with whom we've partnered over the years. Audiences will hear from our founders, our newest ensemble members, and everyone in between! We invite our supporters and families to bring a blanket, chair and refreshments.

This will be a rain-or-shine free event with a suggested $20 donation in honor of our 20th Anniversary. In the event of rain, we will move guests to the pergola at the back of the amphitheatre, and have the staged readings under the stone gazebo at the North end of that trellised walkway. If we are greeted with inclement weather, details will be posted on our website and to Facebook. LFL is still working on some of the logistics of moving the event to Central Park, and will communicate additional details as they become available. Street parking is available on all four sides of Central Park, with accessible sidewalks and ramps throughout the park. There is bench seating in the amphitheatre with green space on each side for blankets and/or chairs.

Even with this new and ever-changing world in which we are all living, we have persisted and thrived to reach 20! We are looking forward to celebrating this monumental milestone of lifting up underheard stories through all these years; and with our supporters, their families and our community here in Louisville there to celebrate with us, we can also kick off the beginning of our next 20 years!
